Salad in a jar

Hello fellow foodies,

I love making salads in a jar! They last 2 weeks for me, when packed right. Makes lunch so easy! I also love having a salad ready to go for dinner.

These are four of my favorites! Recipes left to right.

1. Ranch salad

  • Ranch dressing
  • Tomatoe
  • Jicama
  • Cucumber
  • Bell pepper
  • Diced Ham
  • Mixed greens

2. Mexican salad

  • Lime vinegarette
  • Tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • Black beans
  • Corn
  • Olives
  • Garbanzo beans
  • Mixed greens

3. Spinach salad

  • Rasberry vinegarette
  • Red onion
  • Strawberries
  • Plain or candied almonds
  • Spinach

4. Classic salad

  • Thousand island
  • Garbanzo beans
  • Jicama
  • Tomatoes
  • Bell peppers
  •  chicken
  • Mixed greens
  • Mixed crunchy salad toppings
  • Mixed greens

Normally I do 4 different kinds and make 3 of each.

I listed the ingredients in the order I place them in the jar. I try to put any veggies with lots of liquid towards or in  the salad dressing. The  tomatoes in the mexican salad are so good when they absorb the lime vinegarette!

I try to place any dry ingredients in between the greens or in a bag on top(inside the jar). I’ve also seen people use the plastic fruit cups for dry ingredients on top but havent tried it. you want to pack the greens as full as you can.

I buy a mix of  greens as well as a mix of  chopped cabbage and carrots. Usually a large bag of mixed and small of cabbage, from Winco, is enough for all of them.

I also like to spilt whatever I’m using amongst the 3 jars. Canned or produce. (Example a Cucumber, bell pepper, can of beans)

I use quart sized jars and they’ve held up well and are the perfect size.

Happy prepping,
